ABOUT ME
Jess Grothe

I've wanted to tell stories as long as I can remember.

My first venture into film-making was with my toys around the age of 11.
I would write and film little stories and scripts with them and post them online. My mum told me then that maybe this was something I would do with my life and I suppose she was right.

Losing myself in movies and tv have given me so much comfort during hard times in my life. The characters in fiction have become my best friends, my mentors through life.

In high school I received my first chance to dip my toe into this industry through volunteering with my local YourTv station.
I was able to use equipment I'd never seen before, and witness the feeling of being told 'You're live' which was a truly exhilarating feeling.

Five years of film school at Sheridan College further improved my knowledge and I got to play with all kinds of new equipment, learn where my passions lay, and get to make my own films.

Since graduating I have held positions in both Locations and Art departments, as an LSP and Art PA respectively.

In October of 2023 I held the position of Art PA for Season 2 of 'Canada's Ultimate Challenge' for Insight Productions.

Most recently this spring I took the role of Location Support Personnel for an in-progress 1Department project.

I learnt a lot on both of these projects and hope to gain further experience on set.
